ABOUT US

Our Mission

Gusto Ristorante Italiano BYOB was established in September 2022 with the mission of bringing the true traditional Italian culinary art to Pennsylvania. In Italian, the word for taste is gusto. We chose this name because Gusto Ristorante Italiano BYOB can be seen as "A Taste of Italy." Here at Gusto, we want our guests to experience and enjoy the authentic taste and culture of our homeland. Gusto’s menu is designed to allow you to experience Italy’s cuisine without having to make the trip; we want you to feel like you are enjoying a meal in Italy every time you dine with us. If it is not served in Italy, it is not served at Gusto.

Owner and head chef, Andrea Esposito (Napoli, Italia), is a natural-born pizzaiolo and chef. He was formally trained in Pozzuoli. Before opening Gusto, he co-owned restaurants in both Italy and the United States of America. Chef Andrea refuses to compromise the taste, quality, or authenticity of his dishes.

All of his ingredients are thoughtfully selected and imported from Italy, using only the best quality ingredients available on the Italian market. All these items are grown, produced, and packaged in Italy. What cannot be imported, Chef Andrea makes in-house every morning using the ingredients imported from Italy. All of the pasta, bread, meatballs, mozzarella, and stracciatella are homemade following traditional Italian recipes, with only seasonal Italian ingredients.

The authenticity of Gusto Ristorante can be seen even in the meal structure. The Italian meal structure is divided into multiple courses with the idea that you will consume one dish from each course. You will find that our menu here at Gusto follows the same structure. And just as in Italy, the portion sizes served are very exact, allowing you to enjoy your entire meal.

A traditional Italian meals usually consist of several courses:

  • Antipasto - appetizer

  • Primo Piatto - first course of pasta, served al dente

  • Secondo Piatto - second course of protein such as meat, poultry, or fish (no pasta)

  • Contorno - side dish

Andrea got his Diploma in Italy at IPSAR Lucio Petronio in Pozzuoli (Napoli). Working as a chef and pizzaiolo in Italy first, he was owner of different restaurants/pizza places in both Italy and the USA. His passion for the Italian cuisine has been proudly passed down through generations. His father, chef Biagio Esposito, was his greatest mentor and influence.

His wife Giuseppina, besides being an inspiration and support, helps him in the management and in the choice and preparation of the various recipes.
